Namaste’ — The Most Beautiful Word

Enchanted Planet Blog Header

Namaste’ may be the most beautiful and true word in any language!

Namaste’ means recognizing that we are all One being. The Oneness in me recognizes the Oneness in you… you human, you plant, you stone, you stars, you cow, you building, you sunshine, you tree, you computer… all of it. I honor the Hindu tradition for giving us this word that reflects the deepest reality of our existence.

It is rare that I truly feel the oneness of All-That-Is, but having felt it at all, I will never forget.

I am reminded of an ancient Celtic poem that points to the same truth. The Song of Amergin speaks of recognizing oneself in all things around us. I honor my Irish ancestors for sharing this way of seeing the world.

The Song of Amergin

I am a stag: of seven tines,
I am a flood: across a plain,
I am a wind: on a deep lake,
I am a tear: the Sun lets fall,
I am a hawk: above the cliff,
I am a thorn: beneath the nail,
I am a wonder: among flowers,
I am a wizard: who but I
Sets the cool head aflame with smoke?

I am a spear: that roars for blood,
I am a salmon: in a pool,
I am a lure: from paradise,
I am a hill: where poets walk,
I am a boar: ruthless and red,
I am a breaker: threatening doom,
I am a tide: that drags to death,
I am an infant: who but I
Peeps from the unhewn dolmen, arch?

Who But I?

That is a very good question, because, ultimately, there IS nobody else. As Bashar explains it, there is only one “thing” that is moving so fast that it seems like a multitude of things (though there really is no space to move within and no time to go fast or slow). I think of the old TV screens that had one dot moving across the screen so fast that it looked like a continuous picture… at least that’s how my dad explained it.

It is fun to think about and go through the world recognizing that we are all reflecting each other… and “we” includes all that exists… because there is only that I Am.

Pretty mind expanding!
