Can a Person Be a Portal?

If so, you may have been sensing the essence of Avalon — that etheric realm found in the legends of King Arthur.

Arthur’s most famous mentor, Merlin, often brought about exchanges between the realms and was a frequent visitor to Avalon.

At times, Merlin even facilitated complete convergences of the two planes, as when the Lady of the Lake emerged from the watery depths to bestow the sword Excalibur upon Arthur.

It was Merlin’s magic that momentarily joined the worlds and allowed that mythic deed to take place on the material plane. He was a living portal between the realms.

Merlin could weave the etheric reality into the physical, if only for fleeting moments at a time.

What & Where is Avalon?

According to the old tales, Avalon exists in a reality that is parallel with our human world, separated only by the thinnest of veils. Often knights would lose themselves in a forest, only to find themselves in Avalon.

Avalon is described as an island paradise shrouded in mists, home to faery priestesses and followers of the old religion. It is the Isle of Apples, where both fruit and blossoms deck the trees all year long.

Yet it is not a long-lost fairytale setting. It is a living dimension of the faery realm that intersects with our own plane of existence, even now.

Magician, Shapeshifter & Wizard

The Merlin we know from Arthurian lore (there were others less well known) served as an ambassador between the worlds.

With his mastery of the old ways and command over the forces of nature, he could part the veil and usher beings back and forth between realities.

The magic for such feats flowed through Merlin’s very being — he was, and still is, a living portal, a doorway between Avalon and the material realm.

We can call on him whenever we want to connect with the magic of Avalon and the vision of the New Earth as embodied in Camelot.

In the legends, Merlin would suddenly appear and disappear, materializing from seemingly nowhere to guide young Arthur or uplift the noble knights of the Roundtable.

With his magic, Merlin could slip between worlds at will (and so can you in your shamanic journeys). One moment he may have been strolling among the standing stones on the sacred isles, then instantaneously he could manifest within the halls of Camelot to offer up prophecy and wise counsel.

He was able to shape-shift Uther Pendragon, Arthur’s father, to make him appear as Igraine’s husband in order to bring about Arthur’s conception. Weaving these royal and faery bloodlines together was part of Merlin’s plan for the creation of Camelot as a doorway to the New Earth.

Merlin also served as a wise teacher, helping to nurture the spirituality and mystical consciousness of Arthur and other brave knights and ladies of the era.

Tapping Into the Magical Frequency of Avalon

The Lady of the Lake, Morgan le Fay, Nimue’ and others were not just mythological constructs, but faery beings existing in that parallel dimension. By attuning King Arthur to the magical frequency of Avalon, Merlin empowered the extraordinary adventures and heroic lives that became legendary morality tales — often focusing on the relationship between faeries and humans.

Merlin’s magical arts were always about reconnecting people to the primordial rhythms and power of nature and the faery realm.

His command of magic tapped into those subtle eddies of the universe — aligning kings and commoners alike with the ebb and flow of life’s great cosmic dance across both realms.

For a few centuries at least, Britain flourished under such reawakened mystical awareness.

In time, however, human perspectives changed and people began to shun such pagan spiritual ideas. The veil grew cloudy and obscured the Otherworlds from the masses, yet there have always been a few who could see and remember Avalon and the faeries.

Merlin’s Mission Continues

Merlin’s great Avalonian work is never truly completed. With each turn of the spiral of ages, gateways reopen and opportunities arise to restore that magical interconnection — allowing the wondrous realm of Avalon pour its enchantment into our reality once again.

Today, many people are awakening to glimpse the magical undercurrents pulsing through our modern world.  The New Earth is manifesting, whether we are ready or not.

At any time, Merlin’s immortal spirit may suddenly appear and open the way to Avalon’s resplendent realms and the magic of Camelot to you. Of course, Camelot may not appear as a medieval kingdom anymore, but its essence of harmony, prosperity and fellowship will be revealed as we experience the New Earth together.
